Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
I have chosen to not be paneled with any insurance company directly. Individual counseling services are offered at a rate of $150 per standard 50 minute session ($175 for initial intake appointment). If requested, clients can be provided with a super bill to submit to insurance for out of network reimbursements.
Do you offer in-person appointments?
Currently, all appointments are offered virtually only. Virtual appointments are open to anyone in the State of Maryland.
What is your therapeutic approach?
My approach is compassionate, directive, and action-oriented, with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as the primary framework. ACT emphasizes mindfulness, values-based living, and building psychological flexibility to support meaningful change. While ACT guides much of the work, I also draw on CBT, mindfulness-based interventions, and other modalities as needed to best serve each client.
Why do you not accept insurance?
I made the decision to de-panel from insurance in order to provide care that more closely aligns with ethical and clinical values. Insurance reimbursement requires a formal mental health diagnosis and ongoing documentation that emphasizes pathology and medical necessity. My current conceptualization of mental health treatment focuses on supporting growth, resilience, and psychological flexibility rather than defining individuals primarily through diagnostic labels. The stringent diagnostic requirements imposed by insurance companies can be inconsistent with this framework and may require pathologizing experiences that are better understood as part of normal human distress or life transitions.
Operating outside of insurance also allows therapy to be more individualized and clinically appropriate. Treatment decisions can be guided by client needs rather than by restrictions related to session limits, mandated treatment approaches, or extensive administrative oversight. This model supports greater privacy, flexibility in treatment planning, and the ability to focus more fully on the therapeutic process rather than insurance documentation.
Many clients find that private-pay therapy offers a more personalized and collaborative experience. Sessions can be structured around meaningful therapeutic goals, pacing can be adjusted without external limitations, and sensitive personal information is not routinely shared with third-party payers. This approach allows therapy to remain centered on the client’s values, goals, and overall well-being.
